Making a request

Before asking volunteers to look for your source, try finding it yourself with the tools at your disposal.

In particular, eligible editors can use the Wikipedia Library, which gives access to content provided by numerous academic publishers.

• Though we would prefer you to ask for a specific journal, article or work, we will accept open-ended questions. You can ask for all kinds of sources here, either on this page or by writing directly to an active user.
• Provide as much detail as possible: a full citation with author, title, publisher, date and identifiers like DOI, ISBN, ISSN, PMID, OCLC, etc. Indicate which article you need this for.
• Due to copyright restrictions, we cannot send you full book/thesis copies. Narrow down your request to a specific chapter or page(s).
• Since we cannot post original copyrighted material online, we will most likely send it by email. Make sure you have specified an email address in your preferences before asking.
• Add the {{Resolved}} template when your request is completed.
• Filled requests are archived. Requests unfilled after three months will also be archived.

Fulfilling a request

• Anyone may offer advice and fulfill requests, in full or in part. When fulfilling a part of a request, tell others which one so that they don't have to do the same work.
• Notify (mention) the requester using {{u|REQUESTER_USERNAME}}.
• You can:
  • post a URL address ( http://... ) if the material is available online and the webpage does not infringe others' copyrights
  • share scans of pages or documents using a file-sharing service if legal
  • upload out of copyright works to Wikimedia Commons or Wikisource (make sure your institution's policies allow this). Check Wikimedia Commons's guide for copyright in each jurisdiction if in doubt.

Respect copyrights and terms of services of any online services you use. If you aren't able to visit there in-person, they have a link to request a copy of it ("Reproduction sous conditions"), but you might have to get copyright permission from the copyright owner(s), and you'll probably have to pay a fee for the copying and/or usage. (I'm not familiar with the details of this; I'm just summarizing the information at the top of the form.)

I can't help you with that one, I'm afraid. Old printed magazines are notoriously hard to find nowadays and that's a problem I'm also facing myself. A link to WorldCat like this ISSN 1065-1667 might help. But if nothing helps and a request gets archived, I manually search online catalogs of various libraries and then ask editors who have access to these libraries directly. My library allows me to see the table of contents of each issue, but not the articles itself, using the ProQuest database that @AstonishingTunesAdmirer linked. The July 2000 issue doesn't have an article on that album. Pg. 74 is "BPM Feature: Beats Per Minute - Funkst?rung: Taking the Rap" and the next item is at Pg. 81: "Music Reviews: Sonic Youth - "NYC Ghosts & Flowers". Books about folktales of Southeast Asian peoples (Tai Khamti and Shan)

The following books were written by academics of the peoples themselves.

1 * Sai Aung Htun Dr. (2020). Taikhamti Legends & Law Ordering. Shan Literature and Culture Association. pp. 1-6 (introduction), 75-80 (tale 16. "The Python"), 143-156 (tale nr. 29 "The Young Man from the Emerald Mollusc (Sao Hoi Seng)").

The introduction is for Khamti people as a possible source, tale 16 for "The Story of the Hamadryad" (girl marries python).

The alternate for tale 29 indicates it is a Khamti variant of Sang Thong (aka. "The Prince in a Golden Conch [Shell]"), because "Hǒi-sang" was the name used by J. Leyden and Captain James Low to indicate the existence of the tale in the early 19th century.

The Story of a Fairy and a Prince is homonymous with a tale first collected from a Shan source and published by Mrs. Leslie Milne in 1910. Milne's tale is a Shan variant of ATU 408 and the Indian "The Belbati Princess". Would like to see if it another variant or a reedition of Milne's text. In the latter's case, will add it as a reprint and later to separate the Shan tales.

"White Shell-fish" has a parallel title to a Shan tale published by B. R. Pearne in Journal of the Burma Research Society with the title "The Silver Oyster", which has been pointed as a Shan variant of Sang Thong. Possibly another variant of the Shan tale.

"The Youth of Emerald Mollusc" has a similar title with the Khamti "The Young Man from the Emerald Mollusc (Sao Hoi Seng)".

I have examined every archive I know of to the best of my ability, contacted the author of the only place I've found it quoted (had a response, they theorized it was either on Google Books or openlibrary.org), contacted the author (provided email, no response). Wherever it is, it may be just under "Other", the name of the series it is a part of. It is the only book in the series that I can't find. If you can find a place to purchase it, I'll take it.

I am/was interested in the book because the 4th book of the series had really bad SEO, and so I only uncovered it after spending a few months churning through newspaper articles from the 1920s. It had most of the information I had taken months to find and it was pretty good at citing its sources, so I was hoping that it could put me onto other secondary sources I hadn't found and save me a bunch of time. At this point I am not even certain the book has been published; its Amazon page says 2020 (but currently unavailable), his website says it will come out later this year, and it was also quoted in a single web page in 2023. 1brianm7 (talk) 03:08, 27 July 2025 (UTC)

There is a possibility that it was scheduled to be released but it got delayed. Since it was self-published on amazon, perhaps the author removed the book from the website.
